1823
Overview
The region's economy gained infrastructure: in the fall a man, in company with his father, erected a saw-mill on the Vandermark Creek, which they got to running the last day of the year. The event is described in two passages, one stating the father came out in 1823 and united with him in erecting the first sawmill there. ↗
At the national and world level, Congress passed several measures in early 1823: a January act provided for a district court and a judge for the counties of Brown, Crawford and Michilimackinac, and a March 3 act authorized the electors of the Territory of Michigan to choose eighteen by ballot at the next delegate election.
