• “The father moved to Vermont when quite young and lived there until 1847, when he brought his family to Rock county, Wisconsin, and settled on the farm of 160 acres which he had bought in 1846 for 20 shillings per acre. Here he made a permanent home and engaged in farming until his death in July, 1852, at the age of sixty years. He was many years a member and a deacon of the Congregational church, and in politics a Whig.”
