H.; moved with his parents to AValdo Co., Maine, when 6 years old. where he worked on his father's farm and taught school winters till 1847, when he went to Dedham, Mass., and worked as a carpenter and joiner ; in 1848, he and his brother built a store and carried on a general mercantile business ; in 1850, he went to Boston and worked in the freight depot of the Taunton & New Bedford R.”
