DeLorma Brooks started a weekly Democratic paper called the Herald, and shortly after N. O. Perkins published the first number of the Beloit Times; the two publishers printed on opposite sides of the same sheet.

• “During this year, 1857, DeLorma Brooks started a weekly Democratic paper, called the Herald, and shortly after that N. 0. Perkins published the first number of another Republican paper, the Beloit Times, and the two publishers effected an arrangement whereby the Democratic Herald was printed on one side of the sheet and the Republican Times on the other, the respective editors being entirely independent of each other.”
