The General Government purchased a tract from Lockwood and James D. Doty, covering farm lots numbered thirty-three and thirty-four of the private land claims at Prairie du Chien, comprising about one hundred and sixty acres.

• “Lockwood and James D. Doty by the government in the year 1829, and covered the front and main portions of farm lots numbered thirty-three and thirty-four, of the private land claims at Prairie du Chien, and comprised about one hundred and sixty acres. Fort Crawford was built on this tract in 1829, 1830 and 1 83 1. There was also a reservation of section eighteen, township seven, north of range four west, known as the Cattle Yard.”
