At the State Fair at Janesville, the fire company won the first prize, a silver trumpet, in a tournament with companies from Milwaukee, Madison, Janesville and other places.

The evidence

• “The present engine house was erected in ~1868. At the State Fair at Janesville in October, 1857, the company won the first prize, a beautiful -silver trumpet, in a tournament in which were companies from Milwaukee, Madison, Janesville and several other places. At Freeport, on the 15th of September, 1871, the company won the first prize of $100 for throwing the largest quantity of water, and the third prize of $50 for distance.”
