The club's growth was steady and it was incorporated October 27, 1896, under the name of the Sinnisippi Golf Club, "Sinnisippi" being the old Indian name for Rock river. In 1898 the grounds, consisting of ninety-three acres, were bought from the AVoodruff estate by another corporation formed for that purpose, called the Janesville Country Club.
