The Janesville Iron Works (Novelty Works) were erected/established on River street by Joseph H. Budd.

“Janesville Iron Works. — The crumhling walls of the old Novelty Works, on River street, near the cotton-factory, marks the spot where this institution stood. It was erected about 1852, by Joseph H. Budd, who turned out all kinds of machinery and farming implements, employing; from seventy-five to one hundred men.”
