• “Married Miss Helen Hislop, daughter of Robert and Janette Hislop, of Scotland; they have three children — Caroline C, Janette E. and Helen A. He went to California in 1852, worked in the mines and also at his trade of bootmaking, at Downieville ; returned home in 1859 ; he now is in the greenhouse business, with headquarters at Janesville; raises all kinds of plants and shrubbery ; is liberal in religion and politics.”
