• “W. Child came to Wisconsin in the fall of 1845, and settled in Eagle, Waukesha Co. ; engaged as school teacher for three years ; since then has always been engaged in mercantile pursuits in Palmyra, Albion and Edgerton ; came to Rock Co., Nov. 11, 1866, and opened a general store ; four years afterward, he sold out, and in 1870 commenced the business which he now is engaged in, which was the first tobacco warehouse at Edgerton ; ships 3,000 cases, on an average, annually. Married, April 28, 1848, Miss B.”

• “Our subject was reared and educated in his native town and in 1845 came West and settled at Eagle, now Waukesha, Wis., and engaged in teaching some three years. He afterward engaged in the mercantile business at Moquantigo, then at Eagle and then Palmyra and later at Albion, whence, in 1865 he removed to Edgerton ; in the meantime, in 1853, his parents removed to Wisconsin.”
