• “He was also a director of the Land Grant Railroad Company, known as the Wisconsin & Superior Company, until its consolidation with the North-Western Company. During the years of 1853 and 1854 the city of Janesville delivered to the Rock River Valley Union Railroad Company $87,000 in bonds bearing 8 per cent interest, running twenty years, the company agreeing to pay the interest and principal of the same. The company became bankrupt after having disposed of the bonds and the interest was not paid.”
