The telegraph line reached Janesville from Milwaukee and began operating.
The evidence
“The first telegraph wire running into Janesville was from Milwaukee, in 1848. The electric telegraph began working in Janesville on the 15th of December, and did " an active business." The Gazette observes : " Our business men are very generally availing themselves of the facilities offered by this truly wonderful agent of instantaneous communication with their correspondents abroad.”
