At the national conference of waste a gathering of governors of all the states, held at the White House, Washington, D. C, May 14 to 16, 1908, he was one of the scientists invited by President Roosevelt to address them. By the trustees of the University of Chicago in July, 1908, he was appointed a member of the commission who are to investigate educational conditions and possibilities in China, his special inquiries being made along the lines of agriculture, mining, manufacturing and transportation. With his son, Rollin Chamberlin, Ph.D., he expects to sail from New York the first of January, 1909.
