• “This town was constituted by an act of the Legislature of the Territory of Wisconsin, February 17, 1842. At its organization, the town embraced an area equal ttf about four townships, including the territory of the present Avon, Newark, Beloit and Turtle ; that is to say, Township No. 1 north, of Ranges 10, 11, 12 and 13 east, except the two eastern tiers of sections in Township 1 north, of Range 13 east, and also excepting the north section in the third tier of the same township.”
