Henry Dodge was appointed major of the United States rangers and was in active service in the Black Hawk War.

• “In 1814 he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel and in the same year he removed to what is now Wisconsin and settled near Dodgeville. Ho was appointed major of the United States rangers in June, 1832, and was in active service in the Black Hawk War. On March 4, 1833, he was appointed colonel of the First dragoons.”
