When our subject was an infant, in 1837, his parents settled in Rock county on a tract of land which the father improved and where he made a home and reared his family. Here he experienced all the inconveniences and hardships incident to pioneer life of the early days, but bravely facing them, overcame trials and obstacles and lived to enjoy the wellearned fruits of his toil.”
