A man moved to Magnolia Township, Rock Co., and took up eighty acres of Government land.

The evidence

• “Magnolia; born Dec. 10, 1816, in Connecticut; moved to Genesee Co., N. Y., when quite young ; he was educated there, and worked as a farmer and builder till 1846, when he came to Wisconsin and stopped on Hart Prairie, Walworth Co., till 1847, when he moved to Magnolia Township, Rock Co., and on arrival here, payed out his last cent for toll, when crossing the river ; he took up eighty acres of Government land, all wild, and built a frame shanty, being the first of that description in the neighborhood. In 1861, he built his present homestead, but has a(|ded to it since ; he owned 200 aores, unincumbered, but has given some to his sons, and sold more, so that he retains eighty acres, and raises all kinds of grain and stock.”
