• “Our subject received a common school education in his native place and at the age of twenty-two began life on his own account. He first settled at Lima Center, AYisconsin, in 1859, and for two years was engaged in general merchandizing. In 1861 he returned to New York and married, and after a short visit to Lima with his family went back to New York and lived there seven years.”
