“THE FIRST DEATH in the village is said to have occurred in the year 1854, the victim of the " old man " being a man named Hakes, a brother of Stiles Hakes, but about the same time, or shortly afterward, a gentleman from Ohio, a minister named Thorington, was killed by the cars, and filled the first grave in the cemetery.”
