December 3, 1836
The Legislative Assembly located the seat of government at Madison, on the isthmus between the third and fourth of the Four Lakes, and provided that sessions would be held at Burlington, in Des Moines County, until March 4, 1839, unless the public buildings at Madison were completed sooner.
