• “At this election a vote was taken on " equal suffrage to colored persons." On this question the vote stood, in favor of suffrage, 858 votes ; and against it, 994 votes. Vote for Circuit Judges. — At an election held August 7, 1848, Edward V. Whiton was chosen Judge of the First Judicial Circuit by a vote of 2,304, against 2,001 for David Nogglo.”
