The city of Janesville was incorporated by act of the Legislature approved by Gov. Farwell. Most passages date approval March 19, 1853; one passage reads March 9, 1853.

• “By an act of the Legislature of Wisconsin, approved by Gov. Farwell, March 19, 1853, tho city of Janesville was incorporated, and by that charter, sections one and two of the town of Rock were incorporated into the city limits. Consequently Monterey and Rockport are now a part of the territory belonging to Janesville; and, with sections one and two, pass from the town of Rock many of the localities where the scenes herein described transpired,”
