• “But his influence helped secure the Institution for the Blind for Janesville, and he was one of its trustees from 1852 to 1858. He was for several years president of the Eock county fair and of the State Agricultural Society, and in 1859, introduced Abraham Lincoln when he spoke at the state fair, held in Milwaukee. Throughout his twelve years' residence near Janesville he was a prominent officer of the First Methodist Episcopal church.”
