On the right bank of the Mississippi in Dubuque County, Wisconsin Territory, opposite Rock Island, Henry Dodge and chiefs of the confederated Sauk and Fox, including Keokuk (Kee-o-kuck) and Wapella, concluded a treaty ceding the 400-section reservation set apart in 1832. The tribes agreed to leave that land by November 1, 1836, and not to plant, fish, or hunt there afterward. Consideration included cash payments, debt payments, and horses.
