Congress approved acts granting lands to Wisconsin for railroad construction (April 25) and donating lands for agricultural colleges (July 2); the legislature approved a matching act June 16.

Dousman and Daniel Whitney, nor in the grant to the state of Wisconsin, under resolutions of congress approved April 25, 1862, granting lands to Wisconsin to ■aid in the construction of railroads, to be surveyed and subdivided into lots not less than onefourth of an acre, and not more than forty acres, deducting such portions of the same as the public interest and convenience may require ; and when so surveyed and platted, to be sold separately at auction. On the loth of November, 1864, under directions of the commissioner, the lands were offered for sale at auction at the fort.”
