• “He was born November 16, 1842, to Barnhart and Mary Eva (Garlock) Sherman, both of whom were natives of Germany. They emigrated to the United States about the year 1849, and settled on a farm in the town of Alfred, Allegany county, N. Y. ; thence they removed to Fulton township, Eock county, Wisconsin, in 1854.”
