The Winnebago War occurred, by which the United States gained control of the lead mines.

The evidence

• “When our lead regions, which had formerly been worked by Sauks and Foxes, began to be invaded by white miners in 1821 and 1822 they found that Winnebagoes were in possession and claimed that country. The war with the Indians in 1827, by which the United States gained control of those mines, is called "The Winnebago War."”
