• “James Woodward Strong. Born in Brownington Vt., September 29, 1833, came with his parents to Beloit, Wis., in 1851. As a little child, he was so frail that his mother hardly expected to raise him ; when fourteen years old he worked in a printing office for his board and a $7 overcoat as pay for one year's labor.”
