Putnam, later a Bradford township farmer, was born in Orange county, Vermont.

• “Putnam, one of Rock county's substantial farmers, owns a place of 200 acres finely improved in section 11, Bradford township. He was born in Orange county, Vermont, on March 23, 1827, and is one of a family of six children, four of whom are now deceased, born to Daniel and Rebecca (Carlton) Putnam, the former a native of Danvers, Mass., and the latter of Landoff, N. H.”
