• “It was not till long after the Thebault family had gone that the boy told this story, fearing, he said, to do so before they moved away as he was afraid they would kill him if he did. During the summer of 1837, we were startled one morning just after sun rise by a fife and drum music in clear distinct strains. It greeted our ears from the north side of the river at the foot of the lake.”
