The Caswells' sister, who had remained in Milwaukee, traveled to Janesville with a family going there by team, and worked for the Janes family.

• “In the summer of 1837 my sister, who had remained in Milwaukee, had found a family that was going to Janesville with a team and knowing it was only ten miles from our shanty, arranged with them to take her along. We soon learned she was with the Janes family, at Janesville and for the time being was working for them.”
