John P. Dickson left Vermont for Milwaukee, arriving a month later (another passage states he and his wife arrived from Vermont in August).

• “JOHK P. DICKSOjV ; was, bom in Danville, Vt., April 18, 1808; in 1836, he decided to settle in the West, aud, in May of that year, left Vermont for Milwaukee, where he arrived a month later. After looking about for some time in search of a suitable location, he selected the site of Janesville for his permanent residence, and, in August, 1838, entered about 200 acres of land ; part of this he laid out as a farm, and disposed of the remainder in various ways,.selling portions of it and again adding other land as occasion served ;”
