• “Henry B. Crandall, having returned earlier, came on with his family in the fall of 1838, and lived with Pierce during the winter of 1838-39. During the winter, the water in the well got low, and, in stoning it up, they had taken out and saved the lumber around the frames, which well nigh caused a calamity.”
