John Buob built a brewery up the river in 1853.
The evidence
“In 1853, John Buob built a brewery up the river, half a mile above the railroad, where he manufactured lager beer for thirsty throats. In 1854, Anson Rogers, since Mayor of the city two terms, bought a half-interest from Buob, and they carried on the business together for eight years, at the end of which time, Buob sold to Rogers and went to Jefferson, where ho built a flouring-mill.”
