• “Working next for Edwin French, Cyrus also taught a district school for five winters, with an occasional term at the Teachers' Seminary for himself. He gained the power to interest young men from the lakes and the furnace, and also in 1844 gained Miss Lucy Ann Nichols for a wife, and two years later decided to go West. With a prairie schooner and a heavy team and good wishes from neighbors, August 31, 1846, he started with wife and twins, Louisa and Eliza, for northern Illinois.”
