“Clute visited Janesville a few years ago to look after some property belonging to his scattered estate. He related the circumstances of his first visit to the Rock River Valley, and confessed that he was "badly sold." In 1848, H. Hyatt Smith and others purchased a tax title of Wisconsin City for |800.”
