The evidence

• “brought his family, reaching Beloit on May 15, 1843. While building his home, which was situated at what is now the corner of Bluff and D streets (it was then outside of the town limits), he lived with old Captain Houston in the old house on Fourth street, which still stands, and lived in other places in Beloit until they built, as above mentioned, in the year 1849. Here he lived thirteen years, engaged in draying, being the first drayman in Beloit.”
