• “Mr. Alden remained in charge until 1856, when he severed his connection with the Giazette to engage in other pursuits. In 1857, he was elected Clerk of the Circuit Court, remaining in that oflBce eight years, going thence to Madison, where he accepted a position in the office of the Secretary of State, where he served five years, resigning to take charge of the editorial columns of a Madison newspaper, where he now is associate editor of the Journal.”
