The town of Union was first settled by Charles McMillan, Samuel Lewis, Stephen Jones, Erastus Quivey, John Rhinehart and Rev. Boyd Phelps. (Another passage dates the first settlement to about June 1839 by Hiram Griffith, Boyd Phelps, Stephen Jones, Erastus Quivey and John Griffith.)
