The *Wisconsin Journal of Education* was established in Janesville by James Sutherland.

The evidence

• “In January of 1855, Mr, James Sutherland began the publication of the Educational Journal, and, after conducting it one year, transferred it to the State Teachers' Association. It now ranks among the ablest educational organs of the Northwest, There is a commodious school building in each of the five wards of the city, besides the Central School, in addition to the regular school, in the Fifth Ward.”
