A new hotel in Janesville was opened by landlords Churchill and Sibley.

The evidence

• “The new hotel was to be something grander than had ever been erected in Janesville. On June 1, 1848, the "Gazette" published an article concerning it, in which it was stated that it would require more than an acre of plaster. It was finally finished and opened on October 12 by Landlords Churchill and Sibley, and was run as a hotel until it was burned in 1853.”
