• “Mr. Smith was made a Mason at Janesville in 1847 ; served as master of the lodge ; assisted in organizing a chapter of Royal Arch jMasons at Janesville, and elected to the order of Knights Templar, but not installed. He also aided in organizing a Temple of Honor at Janesville, and was always an Episcopalian in religion and a Democrat in politics.”
