• “For the quarter commencing April, 1853, the gross receipts were $461.— The increase since that time has been rapid, especially in tho letter department of the office, showing, for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 1855, $1248, with an estimated receipt for the present fiscal year, ending July 1, 1856, of over $5000, this being an increase of about 400 per cent. in less than four years,”

For the quarter commencing April, 1853, the gross receipts were $461.
