• “Crandall, at the munificent salary of $6 per month, she boarding at his house and doing chores for her board. The following year, to wit, on September 24, 1840, Miss Hall quit teaching, and went to keeping house, the much-favored gentleman being Mr. James Pierce, whom she married on that date.”
