• “The father, born in 1815, left New Jersey in 1824, living at Hamilton, Dayton, Piqua and other points in Ohio, until December, 1837, when he came to Alton, 111., and thence, after one year, to Montgomery county, near Hillsboro, where he obtained his wife. Jacob AVhitehead was a member of the Presbyterian church, a colonel in the state militia about the time of the Mexican War, and originally a Democrat.”
