fine brick block , In 1871 and 1872, Morris C. Smith built the at the northeast corner of Main and Milwaukee streets to take the place of the old frame building which had been burned there ; the upper story of this block was used as a meeting place by the Masonic society for many years, and until they bought their own building in 1906. Brick buildings were also erected on Milwaukee street between River street and the river to take the place of the old frame buildings destroyed by fire.
