Deacon Samuel Hinman's election as superintendent brought a family back to Beloit.

• “Samuel Hinman, of Waukesha, Wis., one of the best men that ever lived, and we went to his farm near that village, where we remained a year or two. His election as superintendent of the first building erected for Beloit College brought us back here in the spring of 1847. This was the year in which the first freshman class was formed, the year in which the corners]tone of Middle College was laid.”
