• “George Record Peck was born near Cameron, Steuben county, N. Y., in 1843, and at the age of six years was brought West by his parents on their removal to "Wisconsin, where he spent his childhood amid the hardships of farm life in a Western clearing. At the age of sixteen, with only a common-school education, he left the work of the farm to become a district school teacher, that he might add to the scant income of his father and free the farm from debt.”
