• “V. I. ; was taken prisoner July 22, 1861 ; was in Libby under Wirz' cruelty ; in June, 1862, was sent to Tuscaloosa, Ala."; at Salisbury, N. C, he was wounded in the head and reported dead, but only lost his left eye ; mustered out at Madison, Wis., at tlie end of the war.”
