The New England Emigrating Company was formed at Colebrook, N. H., appointing Dr. Horace White as agent to find a western home.
“In that village was a group of twelve men who felt that the world had for them something larger and nobler than little Colebrook could ever afford. They formed the New England Emigrating Company in October, 1836, appointed Dr. Horace White their agent, and sent him across the country by such conveyance as he could hire or buy, to find them a western home.”

Winter 1836
Dr. Horace White travels westward to the Wisconsin Territory as the agent for the New England Emigrating Company to locate a site for a new town.

This monument is erected to their deeds and the beauty of their character. – Carved on the monument at Horace White Park One October, as the leaves turned golden, orange, and fiery red, the young men of Colebrook, New Hampshire, gazed westward and pondered their futures. The most enterprising among them gathered together and formed the New England Emigrating Com”
